Kick-Ass (2010)

First of all this movie is incredibly violent and vulgar and I wouldn't have expected any less from a live action remake of Mark Millars's comic epic about a kid who takes it upon himself to be a superhero despite the fact he is without powers.

Things predictably go as you expect they would in real life. Our hero, 'Kick-Ass' is quickly hospitalized.

But that doesn't mean that no other heroes exist to take up the slack. WE meet Big Daddy (Nicholas Cage who annoys with his scattered speech patterns) and his juvenile sidekick/daughter - the more awesome THAN awesome - 'Hitgirl'.

She is a nicely damaged piece of work but full on supportive of her family's hobby'. I love when the tween anthem starts playing when she get to work on the bad guys. She is pure ballet of death. I think I love her.

They spend their night together taking apart a local crime boss and his operations. He has a neglected son who soon gets into the game as the 'Red Mist'.

Suffice it to say that the whole film just about re-invents the superhero genre that started this year with the likes of 'Defendor' where we get real-life consequences for superhero behavior and some laughs to boot.

I loved this movie. Sure many people will get all crazy to see a fictional little girl who kills and swears in a world where this is just entertainment. Why not really worry about child soldiers in the Congo and other places in West Africa. Because those children aren't worth a spot on the evening News.

If you love the live action superhero genre and want something to pre-blow your mind before Iron Man comes out to officially start the summer movie season, then 'Kick-Ass' is for you. And, thankfully, no post production 3D either.

I'm looking forward to seeing this, despite the fact that it has Nic Cage in it.

He doesn't ruin it if that helps you enjoy the picture better.

Cage was awesome in the movie, but the little girl made the movie. I just reviewed this today, too! Good review, Cal!

I hear that once Cage comes into the movie, it just becomes diabolical....
