This Is Why We Will Never Be A World Power
With all the crisis going on in the world from missile launches between North and South Korea to global economic collapse, we quaint little Canadians have found something equally important to make a huge fuss over.
About two years ago, our regional health boards (who make funding and health care decisions for the province) were merged into on Super Board - supposedly to save money. Several friends of the government were given cushy, high paying jobs.
A few days ago the CEO of Alberta Health Services, Stephen Duckett, was being followed by reporters who wanted to ask him some questions after a meeting. Here was his response
So now people are losing their shit because a guy who makes 600,000 dollars a year as the head of this health care board can't give up two minutes to answer some reporter's questions because he is having a COOKIE - in reality an oatmeal raisin cookie
I don't know if I am upset or if I just became the mayor of Crazytown again.
First of all the 'I am having a cookie excuse' is the height of arrogance and shows how much respect the government officials have for reporters and by proxy, the people of Alberta. In reality the cookie is seen as just another perk for a job where the man is not answerable to the people of the province - a province that takes health care issues very seriously.
Next - ARE YOU FUCKING KIDDING ME? With all the issues this world is facing, you get your panties in a bunch over a cookie? What kind of cookie was it? Is anyone trying to get the 'cookie's' side of the story?
I understand how the cookie incident has grown into a symbol of a government out of touch and seemingly unconcerned with the plight of average Albertans who have fought long and hard for the quality of health care we enjoy in this province.
When you have a government with virtually no opposition to it's policies, it takes something as ridiculous as this to force change at the top of these powerful governmental bodies that seem to be playing fast and loose with people's lives.
As of today the government has found it no longer requires the services of the 'cookie man' and Duckett will walk away with about 600,000 in severance pay. That should keep him in cookies for a good long while.
And that is how things are done in the foothills, bitches.

Maybe the guy's a douchebag. I don't know. But I have to agree that "cookie time" is sacred.
In my world Cookie Time happens at every day at the same time and and if something or someone interferes with that... well, shit's gonna go down real fast, I'll tell you that.
I bet a lot of other politicians are thinking to themselves... why didn't I think of the cookie dodge myself.
Have you seen this?
