Cloak And Dagger - First Limited Series

Such a great concept that would translate very well to television if Netflix wants to bring another great Marvel property to life. These two would fit in perfectly with the DEFENDERS and their grim and gritty street action.   I remember this series from the time in the 80s when I had the money to take a chance on these new characters and be in on the ground floor of a new story.

Tyrone "Ty" Johnson (Cloak) and Tandy Bowen (Dagger) met in New York City as runaways. Tyrone was a 17-year-old boy from Boston, Massachusetts with a debilitating stutter and ran away to New York City when his speech impediment prevented him from stopping his friend from being shot by police, who mistakenly believed he had just robbed a store. Tandy was a 16-year-old girl from a privileged upbringing (born in Shaker Heights, Ohio) who ran away because her multi-millionaire supermodel mother was too busy with her career and social life to spend time with her daughter. When they met, Tyrone considered stealing Tandy's purse, but before he could, a thief stole the purse and Tyrone retrieved it for her. Afterwards, they had dinner and became fast friends. When naïve Tandy accepted an offer of shelter from some strange men, wary Tyrone went along to protect her. The two teens were soon forcibly delivered to criminal chemist Simon Marshall developing a new synthetic heroin for Silvermane and the Maggia, testing it on runaway teens with fatal results. Johnson and Bowen somehow survived injections of the drug, and they fled. During their escape, the drug turned them into superpowered beings (this is later retconned that they were both actually mutants and that the drug had simply awakened their latent abilities). Tyrone found himself engulfed in darkness and seized by a strange hunger which eased in the presence of Tandy glowing with a brilliant light. Trying to hide his newly shadowy appearance in a makeshift cloak, Tyrone began absorbing Marshall's thugs into his darkness while Tandy struck them down with daggers of light. The two teens dubbed themselves "Cloak & Dagger" and declared war on drug crime in combating drug-dealers and helping runaway children.

Love Cloak and Dagger. One of the best new series/characters to come out of the eighties. That first mini-series was just great! (And the rertcon just sucks. Why does EVERYONE have to be a freaking mutant these days?)

Would have loved this on Netflix! Freeform is what used to be ABC Family, so I have no doubt it will be far too toned down in a CW kinda way when dark and gritty would clearly be what this series needs. I mean, they fight the drug underworld for Chrissakes! These are the type of guys that murder whole families "execution style" and burn people to death in barrels in Juarez!

I also bet their budget is suspect, which could kill a show like this. (See, e.g., TNT's Witchblade or Syfy's version of the "Dresden Files." What a shame! Bob was supposed to be a freaking talking horndog SKULL with a major porn jones! Not -- whatever that "Bob" guy was supposed to be! But I digress... ) Oh well, I really hope they don't screw it up.

Those cartoons made me laugh, especially the last one. I hope they don't do anything to change the costume when the show gets made.

This would be a perfect six episode addition the Netflix Daredevil Universe...introduce a couple a street level mutants...yes I know and I hate that part too...but it's the only way to explain away why their aren't more kids like these two without having to go into a huge retcon. It's sloppy I know but it's what it is. The good thing is that they have never become X-men though they did work with them a few times.
