Did You Know?

If I had one version to choose it would be this 1982 classic. Great cast and Andrews does a great effete Sir Percy who can switch to our heroic hero at a whim.

Love it! I read the book and saw the original black and white movie, but never saw the 1982 remake. Too bad because what a great cast (and they all look so young!) I loved Anthony Andrews in "Brideshead Revisited." He plays effete very well, I agree.

And his disquises were actually good. I remember taping this one onto BETA tapes back in the day and I watched it many times.

The love story is good too.

great book but Alexander Dumas deserves title more - three musketeers and man in the iron mask (proto dr doom) qualify just as much and SP wouldnt exist without dumas

You can make an argument for Dumas. I would accept that.

I loved the book. Sir Percy and his Marguerite would have
a falling out...then he would do romantic stuff (after
she'd left in a huff) like kneel down and kiss the paving stones
that her little feet had trod. So yummy. And this was
on top of his snatching tons of French aristocrats from the
guillotine.

I liked that he had to pretend around her but you have to admit that she gave him reasons not to trust her and what he did was so high risk that he needed her trust most of all. He loves her enough to kill her if she is a threat but he would have hated to do that.
