Jordan said...: That painting is a block from my apartment, in the New York Historical Society gallery, along with the other three in the series. Cal, you need to post the whole sequence; it's pretty mind-blowing. It's like a four-panel comic strip that spans 300 years. (Pay attention to the hill in the background that anchors the image, and notice how the camera swings slowly to one side over the course of the paintings.) The ostrich atop the pillar in the final canvas is a symbol for rebirth.; May 6, 2012 at 6:08 PM
