I'm sorry you feel that way Kal. But a career does not make a person. If it did then my sister and I aren't people either. We are both too sick to work - me,with mental problems; she, with arthritis and chronic fatigue.
We are needed to build roads, houses and rescue people on "Rescue Team". Liz does it much faster than I do. I never beat the clock (but they let you finish anyway). As Liz says, "Those houses aren't going to build themselves!"
God bless and keep (or start) smiling. Happy Birthday on Friday in case i forget.
That is an interesting way to look at it. Maybe just being CALVIN in my career and finding ways to force all these opinions and information out of my head is what I was always meant to do. I just do what I did in class only now I just do it through a computer...with a filter or the shackles of a curriculum to follow. Sharing what I know with a bit of humor thrown in. I am really not as complicated as I thought I was. Must be the aprocots in the smoothie.
You look happy in that pic Cal, but I'm glad that you are fortunate enough to pursue what you want. You're part of my day and I thank you for that. I do share some of the sentiment that david does though. I love my job and the people I work with. It's a part of what makes me happy. Not that I wouldn't mind having the where-with-all to do what I wanted to.
I was happy. I miss the kids and the good staff members who made the madness more fun. I am going to get back into substituting in the fall. No marking, no planning, no coaching, just babysitting and I can be the fun sub who looks like a biker.
I forever stand vigilant to protect this planet from the myriad of forces that are always against us. Be it the octopus, zombies, aliens or the robots my team of human agents, and our feline allies, circle the globe in a never ending struggle for human freedom.
I learn all I can on every subject that interests me. I especially enjoy ancient history because in the past there are valuable lessons to be found. Also, if I ever get my time machine to work properly, it would be good to know a bit about possible destinations and what to expect when I get there.
I greatly appreciate beautiful design. Be it manufactured or found naturally I am fascinated by the process of invention. I am attracted to the unique, the strange, the haunted. I like to share what I find on this blog.
And not let us forget the 'Cephalopod Menace' who, if allowed to, would wrap their tentacles around all that is good and pure in this life and crush it until it remained no more. They are creatures of pure spite. Hate is all they know. Death is all they do. They are our most ruthless and determined enemy.
So we fight. Selena has the celebrity contacts, the cat is ruthless and without pity, Roosevelt's ghost has the experience and I do the wetwork.
Fighting for the future of the planet doesn't have to be a chore, however. We can take the time to appreciate all that is cool in this world even as we cut the octopus into bite sized chunks.
This is the reason there has always been and must forever be, a Cave of Cool. Be sure to wipe your feet before you enter.

But you gave it all up to become a blogstar. You traded in your nine-to-five day for the heady, careless blog-and-roll lifestyle.
And we are all thankful for that.

I second what Belle said. We are not our careers/job. education or whatever. Character is greater than that.
your job is to entertain ME... now get back to work! ;D
...special surprise coming up in the future for you- stay tuned
Why is everyone making me wait for things and not telling me??? The stress is killing me.
stay tuned? Where else am I going to go.
Your job was - and still is - to motivate others.
You motivate me buddy and many others too.
That makes you more than just a person that makes you an inspiration.
Keep fighting the good fight you old beardy weirdy you!
I'm sure you were a great teacher.
Careers are the least important part of who we are. Truly.
To the contrary, careers do define us, as a layer.
Being a military guy for 26yrs has shaped me to who I am.
To not have a career which shapes you is to not being truely devoted to it, thus in some respects a waste of time.
Not trying to stir pots.., just offering my two-cents.

Glad to hear you are going to sub in the fall. We loved having subs in high school. It was a good break in the routine.
