There Is Still Curling

And you will enjoy it a lot more than ten months of hockey. A pox on both their houses - players and owners. I am too disgusted with both groups to even have an opinion. I wish more families could afford a night at a NHL game but they somehow need to pay large salaries to the players while making the owners rich. Everyone is making money here but it never trickles down to the fans. It's an old argument.

I remember when the World Juniors were in Alberta in 2012. It was 20 dollars a ticket in Edmonton and everyone packed the place to cheer on Team Canada. It was magic to watch. And they even made millions for local children's hockey with a 50/50 draw that was very popular. People were willing to pay the cost of another ticket at a slim chance at winning big bucks. The extra money went to charity. All the right people won in that tournament. I wish the world could be more like that tournament than professional hockey is as it exists today. Again, I don't really care. I have a good local Junior team in our town and if I want to see a live hockey game there is none better.

I will watch Curling and Figure Skating, Saturday Giant Slalom and Bobsled and whatever death sport they come up with that involves men and women skating down an iced and twisty ski hill track but hockey is no longer interesting to follow unless a Canadian team is in the finals. I have other shows and programming to watch that are more fun than enduring three periods of professional hockey.

Plus the cheeseburgers and the class of women are so much better at the curling rink. It may be heresy to say this but it's true.

I also think I need to be watching much more women's Roller Derby. These women are the kind of life takers and heart breakers that we enjoy around the Cave of Cool.

Women's Roller Derby is where it's at!

I've frequently watch martial artists and figure skaters as references for my daily figure drawing, it looks like I may have to add women's roller derby to the list as well.

I do love the way they skate away from me in disgust. Then they come around and do the same over and over again. Strangely hypnotic.

If only there were a way to COMBINE curling and roller derby. Now THAT would be worth watching!
