Cool Tribute Of The Day
Seen above is the Fallen Astronaut, a tiny aluminum figurine that the Apollo 15 crew placed on the Moon's surface with a plaque listing the names of 14 astronauts and cosmonauts who had died. Belgian artist Paul Van Hoeydonck created the figure and later took a ton of shit from NASA for making replicas that he intended to sell. The space agency felt the commercialization went against their original understanding with Van Hoeydonck. "

Interesting story. I was aware of the commemorative plaque, not the fallen figure.
You see, Cal, this was back when the US and USSR were great. These are the days I long for.
People had a sense of purpose greater than themselves. You can call me a throwback, but it's when we had a sense of purpose, unlike today.
Is this concept seeping through, sir..?
I think you are a little too brainwashed to think these times are the fault of any one side. It's the money interest that have raped your country of it's wealth and promise. I wish you could see that box sides have become toxic especially when you watch all the bullshit that is going on in the Senate. This is the exact things that the crooks want you to fail at fixing. Then they can pay for their crimes by taking away from the majority who did not benefit from the economic meltdown when austerity measures are imposed on you.
I didnt know that story. In the early days of space exploration it seems the USSR had more martyrs.
The Soviet space program was notoriously unsafe. They could cover up deaths in a way that the US program never could. Leaving Laika the dog to die in space is just one example of their indifference to the life of their 'pilot occupants'.
You're 'sort of' on the right track, sir.. It isn't one sided, that is correct, and it is 'money interest' at hand.
It the achievements I miss the most, which government is slowly taking away from free markets, providing handouts, increasing taxes more (which you personally don't have to pay, sir).
THAT.. IS.. WHAT.. SOCIALISM.. IS...
I would like to see a mission to Mars, to colonize the Moon. I fear that is behind us. I welcome an international effort, it's not an 'us vs them' effort as the Cold War was.. I simply do not believe it will happen.
Oh, and agreed totally on Laika. Such a true spirit.
