Guillermo del Toro's Vampire TV series, The Strain - First Peek

The series is a vampire bioterror thriller that tells the story of an outbreak in the U.S. of a virus that either kills those who are exposed to it or turns them into vampires.

The tale is a high concept thriller that tells the story of “Dr. Ephraim Goodweather” (Corey Stoll), the head of the Center for Disease Control Canary Team in New York City.  He and his team are called upon to investigate a mysterious viral outbreak with hallmarks of an ancient and evil strain of vampirism.  As the strain spreads, Eph, his team, and an assembly of everyday New Yorkers, wage war for the fate of humanity itself.

I love this whole idea and especially Corey Stoll in the lead role. He was great in House of Cards and most everything else I have seen him do. To see that Guillermo Del Toro is involved elevates this one to MUST SEE category. Here is the first viral vid. Kinda freaky to say the least because we all know that when the mice/rats gather together like that then some kind of ship is sinking or about to sink.

I read the book series when it first came out. Very much Michael Crichton meets Stephen King, blending a techno/procedural thriller with supernatural elements.

I was bowled over when I heard they cast John Hurt in the role of Professor Abraham Setrakian. Its a Van Helsing type role that only he could pull off.

Oh, my bad. According to Wikipedia John Hurt played the role in the pilot, but dropped out and has since been replace by David Bradley. Bummer.

John Noble isn't doing anything right now.

I was going to say John Noble is too young to play a holocaust survivor turned vampire hunter, but then I looked at the birth dates and realized that he may not be as old as Hurt, but he is older than Bradley.
