The Muppets (2015)

 

I think I started to hate it the moment I saw the legs on Fozzie Bear. Muppets DO NOT have legs. Only Kermit has legs if he is on a wall and needs to hang them over the stone for effect. Or if he has to ride a bike. But NO OTHER MUPPET HAS LEGS.

Bobo The Bear is comedy gold as the Stage Manager. More Bobo is one of my notes. I also learned that Dr Bunsen Honeydew is a sadist, pure and simple and Beaker is suffering from PTSD.

Sam the Eagle is still my favorite of all time. He just elevates the show to a whole other level of ridiculous political correctness. Not as funny in the old days when that stuff he was complaining about were actually forbidden on TV. The old show seemed edgy at times. This one feels focus grouped.

 

I don't know if this was a great start but with time they might rediscover the old magic of the original show. It really was such an important touchstone of my childhood that this pilot had to be out of the park good to really impress me. As it was it was just so-so. I will admit, however, to laughing out loud at Scooter trying to distract Elizabeth Banks who kicked his ass not once but twice from a golf cart.

But then it kinda grew on me. Dancing with the Tsars with Pepe? He always gets the best lines and he should. Clearly he is the most talented prawn in the cast. I still haven't decided about this new Denise but maybe she, like the show will grow on me. I am willing to give it a chance. After all, it's the Muppets.
