Vostok 6

Debra commented about Lego making a Soyuz model and that got me thinking about other spaceships they can do out of Lego. One I would love to see and would surely buy (even with my long standing complicated relationship with the building block company) would be a model of Vostok 6, the vehicle that carried Comrade Sister Girl Valentina Tereshkova into space. I welcome any chance to do a post about my favorite Cosmonaut.

In case you didn't know this piece of junk re-entry vehicle wasn't meant to land with it's pilot inside it. After all those hours in a seat, crammed into a metal ball, Valentina had to PARACHUTE from the hot piece of metal after it passed through enough of the atmosphere to activate it's own parachutes. Think about that kind of bravery. It was SAFER to jump than to land this thing with her inside it.

Her mission lasted 2 days, 22 hours and 50 minutes. She did 48 orbits around the Earth in something that looks made from the scrapyard - a SOVIET scrapyard.
