The town of Red Deer has the lowest life satisfaction rating in Alberta, with a rating of around 7.95. A CBC feature in early 2018 called the town’s situation “a ‘perfect storm’ of recession, crime and addiction,” and Macleans ranked it the fifth-most dangerous city in Canada. However, new investments in infrastructure, national-calibre sporting events coming to the city, and a “young and growing population” have led mayor Tara Veer to believe things could be looking up in the near future.
I live a minute from this church. I walk past it in the middle of the night often to get myself a 7-11 hot dog and gummy snakes and I have never felt in danger even walking through a dark feild between the elementary and junior high school and the indoor and outdoor ice rinks. Oh and that strip mall I frequent has had the same stores for 40 plus years. Nothing has changed. It's a great little safe community so I don't hear about or see how deadly we are. I feel like I can go anywhere - Even Bower Ponds on Canada Day which you know is a madhouse.
