One of the greatest perks of having a blog is that sometimes I get a fan like Yuri in Minsk. He's sorta, maybe my source of screeners of the latest movies coming out. I get to see everything. From it's trailer, this movie was high on my 'want to see' list. Almost as much as MEGAN and you know how I was jonesing for a killer toy robot movie when it first came out so a film about killing Nazis and only killing Nazis hits my sweet spot.

Thankfully the trailers lets you know just what to expect and the dog DOESN'T die. They made a point of that in the television spot. There is no sugarcoating the sheer level of violence at play here, don't be mistaken about that.. I don't mind that if the brutality is done with some style. High concept requires full retard in the execution. Calvin's first law of movie making. Sisu grabs you and never lets you off the hook.

When an ex-soldier who discovers gold in the Lapland wilderness tries to take the loot into the city, Nazi soldiers led by a brutal SS officer battle him.  

The story takes place in the dark, gloomy cold of rural Finland during the war. Our miner discovers gold and is on his way to the city to cash it in. On that journey he gets his buttons pushed by a unit of Nazis who are cruel and just begging to die in as many creative ways as the filmmakers can come up with. They call our hero, The Immortal for his reputation as being a one man killing machine, mostly Russians, after his family was killed and he lost everything. Losing his gold put his right back into that mindset. That's when things get crazy.

It's violent and cold blooded and stretched the boundaries of credulity but that is the fun with this kind of revenge fantasy. You want to see the bad guys get all that is coming to them and this film does not disappoint. It even has a somewhat happy ending.

And the dog doesn't die.
