After a night of going back into time to find those things that delighted and excited me as a child, these European tree houses located in the black forrest really remind me of the forest houses we claimed as our own castles. I defy anyone who can say they had a better childhood than I did.

If you had anything approaching those as a child, I won't even begin to argue the point.
Those top pictures are the ones from Lahr by the Black Forest in South Western Germany. We would drive to it every Sunday and buy little wood carvings from a nearby waterwheel powered carver.
We even had a ruined midevil castles with one working tower that we would visit twice a year with our school class and play 'The Lion, The Witch, and the Wardrobe' - told you idilict
