Pop Tarts Are MAGIC
CEDAR FALLS, Iowa - Shannon Boseneiler's legs were shaking with cold, but she didn't mind.
Despite the decidedly fall temperatures, Boseneiler and two of her friends were determined to finish off the free sweet treat being handed out on the University of Northern Iowa campus.
"It's a little chilly, but totally worth it," she said.
The sundae came courtesy of Karelyn Pohl, a UNI sophomore from Davenport, who last year was runner-up in the Pop-Tarts Pop It Forward Contest, earning her the right to dole out 100,000 of the breakfast pastries.
The Facebook contest asked people to share their idea for distributing 1 million Pop-Tarts.
Pohl, whose favorite Pop-Tart flavor is hot fudge sundae, worked at the Whitey's ice cream shop on West Locust Street in Davenport while she was a student at West High School. She and another friend brought blueberry and strawberry Pop-Tarts into work one day to make a shake. She loved the concoction so much she decided it would be the perfect time to share her idea with the world.
"We put one of each in, and it was awesome," she said.
Friday, the people at Kellogg's sent 5,000 of Pohl's winnings to campus for a Pop-Tart party that included shakes, sundaes, music and a giant inflatable slide and obstacle course.
