Goes to show that even the greatest superhero cartoonist of all time can sometimes miss the mark in his first go around. Thankfully, his second attempt nailed the look perfectly for a jungle superhero.

Between T'Challa's final look and the appearance of the Silver Surfer, I'd say Kirby might have recognized his own overcommitment and decided to be minimal in his designs during the late '60s.
