Has The Age Of The Jet Pack Finally Arrived?

It's looks awful bulky and not at all like the sleek jet packs the old magazine like Scientific American and all those pulp magazines promised us.

The Martin Jetpack is powered by ducted fans and can fly for up to 30 minutes at a time. It has a maximum speed of just under 74 kilometers per hour (46 mph), and can reach altitudes of 900 meters (3,000 feet). Imagine gliding along nearly a kilometer above the ground, powered by nothing more than the pack on your back. It’s a reality that’ll come first to firefighters and emergency teams, as the Martin Jetpack is currently being developed for use as a first-responder vehicle. But don’t worry: It should be available for personal use by sometime in mid-2014—for those who have a spare $200,000.

Cal the future I was promised as a young man didn't include jetpacks. I was promised a post-nuclear apocalypse wasteland populated by mutants and warriors fighting over dwindling supplies of gasoline.

The future I was promised included settlements on the moon, but the goddamn hippies dropped the ball!
"Hey man, don't buy into the system." Yeah, because running around stoned outta your gourd and dirty as a Frenchman is way better then productivity and cultural advancement.
Goddamn hippies...

I feel the same way that you and Cartman do about the Hippies. Can you name ONE hippie superhero? No you can't. That is why we need jet packs.
