UnReal

I have a confession to make. I watch the Bachelor and Bachelorette. Well not really watch them all the way through but I am interested enough to be aware of what's going on from season to season. It's a really fascinating reality show. The TV show somehow convinces twenty four women to compete for the love of one man is a process so manufactured as it takes love completely out of it. Maybe this is the reason very few of the final couples have went on to have successful marriages. More likely the couple break up mere weeks after the final show airs which also invalidates what the show is trying to create.

I mean how can any relationship thrive after being on these romantic dates and living around people who are basically doing everything they can do to create drama amongst the contestants? We only see the on air results and never what has gone into filming the series in the first place.

Unreal takes that concept to create a show about the backstage workings of a Bachelor-like show. They get so many of the details right that it is often hard to distinguish the fake 'reality' from the 'real' reality show. I for one am fascinated where this is going to go. I am only two episodes in but I think this one will be a winner right to the end.  There are so many interesting story streams to follow

Which girl (who are all terrific stereotypes) will get our handsome (and not too dumb) Bachelor and who will be sent home?

Which backstabbing crew member will find success and which will be cut down in the cut throat competition environment that their producer forces them to work under?

UnREAL is an American dark comedy/drama television series that premiered on Lifetime on June 1, 2015. It stars Shiri Appleby as a young reality television producer pushed by her unscrupulous boss to swallow her integrity and do anything it takes to drum up salacious show content. The show was created by Marti Noxon and Sarah Gertrude Shapiro, and was inspired by Shapiro's award-winning independent short film Sequin Raze. UnREAL has received critical acclaim, and was picked up for a second season in July 2015.
