When I was a little kid living in German my favorite toys were Playmobil. Insanely well designed and manufactured, these little plastic figures with their cool accessories were all the rage in my age group. Individual figures were cheap to buy and you could convince your Mother to get you one every time you went to the department store. I loved the variety and how colorful and detailed every single character was. Real time and attention was given to producing toys with maximum play value.
Just look at all the tiny details.
So totally collectible.
You can find a figure for ANYTHING that interests you.
Or any time period that interests you.
From the historic to the simple everyday, Playmobil could do it.
There are also DOZENS of boats that really float.
Good times in the tub with your pirate ship.
The box art themselves deserve special attention.
These look great on display also.
If I had kids I would buy several of these Christmas themed sets to set up every year. In a decade you would have the coolest display ever that even as older people, the kids would love to set up. I could get behind a holiday tradition like this.

Alas, Playmobil came on the market long after my own childhood was done. I would have loved to play with these toys.
I still claim I brought them to North America because they were never here until I returned from living in Europe when I was 12. SUDDENLY they are everywhere. They are very cool.
I got a cowboy set for my fifth birthday, and it was awesome. My favorite part was that their weapons could be used for my Star Wars figures, so the addition of a revolver turned Han Solo into a cowboy many, many times.
Did he shoot first with his playmobil gun too??
Playmobil was awesome! I was in Germany in the late 70's - I think I had everything from the knights and castle to the astronauts.
Same time I was there. The Knight were very sweet with their shiny helmets.
