It's seems that no hero these days is good enough the way they are. The Rocketeer fit a time and a place. If you want to remake this then do so with a bit of sense. How is a black girl going to move in the circles she is going to need to move in during the 1950s. Unless the story takes place in Hollywood or New York would it work. The Alabama based Rocketeer would fail at that point in history. All this reeks of political correctness. We already have a young black Iron Girl now and many other character have changed race and sex lately.
"The Rocketeers," a "sequel-reboot" of 1991's "The Rocketeer,"is officially in development at Disney. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the new franchise will be headlined by a black female lead character.
"The Rocketeers" will take place six years after the original Rocketeer disappeared while fighting the Nazis. In his absence, a young African-American pilot dons the jetpack in order to stop a scientist from using technology to turn the tide of the Cold War.
The film is currently in its earliest stages, though Max Winkler and Matt Spicer are on board to write the script. "The Jungle Book's" Brigham Taylor is also attached as producer alongside the L.A. Clippers' Blake Griffin and the Carolina Panthers' Ryan Kalil. Tendo Nagenda and Chaz Salembier will oversee for Disney.
Don't get me wrong. I love a girl Rocketeer. My beloved Riki does one of the best cosplay of this character in the business.

if a few american sexist racists die of brain hemorrhaging then remake every cult movie with black women please
Those dudes wouldn't go see it anyway.
I'm with Cal on this, though. It just seems like more pandering at the expense of those who would like to see their ORIGINAL heroes benefit from this golden age of Superhero cinema.
BUT if you REALLY want to "remake" a Rocketeer for modern times, then make it in modern times. She's a brilliant Army scientist charged with sorting out all the crap in that giant government warehouse that they put the Ark of the Covenant at the end of "Raiders" and stumbles across the helmet and jetpack. Would Rocketeer work as a modern hero(ine)? Beats me (but I do think there is a reason Dave Stevens chose the time period he did).
Thank you. That works. But nothing Jim Crow era is believable unless she can keep her identity a total secret. Now I want to see how they work out the little details. The first one got those right. I liked the Howard Hughes parts.
