This program is very meta in the way that it presents it's characters and the situation they find themselves in. It plays like a 1950 situation comedy but one with a deliberate purpose of being confusing. Every bit of dialog matters and is a clue to the larger mystery at work here. It's one of the most unique ways to present a super hero story that I have seen in a long while.
I liked this couple from the comics and the live action films and I sorta fell in love with both of them all over again as a couple. I don't know why this works so well on me but it just did. Elizabeth Olson is so adorable with her hammy over acting - but over acting with a purpose. I can see right away that things are not right here and that is where the fun of WandaVsion is to be found.
You would be forgiven for saying WTF? through episodes one and two but don't give up. There is a mystery here to be discovered and action aplenty. The show takes a big chance by not revealing all it's secrets immediately. I can see people becoming impatient and hating the program, especially after leaving us with WTF moments aplenty. I have faith that the creators have a 'vision' here.
That is no more evident than when the couple perform their magic show for a town fundraising event. It's a delicate and beautiful piece of business that leaned heavily on it's Bewitched roots. Both Bettany and Olsen are fully invested in this program which appeals to a niche audience in the Marvel Universe. The lack of anything resembling a clue about what it going on around here might hurt it as people wait for the next episode.
The Dick Van Dyke Show/Bewitched mash-up has it's funny moments but many of the subtle details are lost on the younger crowd who are not aware those shows ever existed. But yes, kids, TV at one time was that square. More square even.
At one hour the first two episodes will have the Internet buzzing with theories, many I have got figured out I think. The show is sprinkled with all kinds of Easter Eggs, many that I know I missed.
Oh and the Bumblebee Guy is SWARM. Swarm is a guy made of Bees....BEES! Plus he's a Nazi like Strucker is a Nazi name connected to HYDRA. That was the first Marvel bad guy that came to mind when I saw the guy surrounded by bees in the beekeepers outfit that causes a major plot turn. It's my guess but I know I am right. HYDRA is mixed up in all this dirty business and there may be more than one INFINITY STONE involved.
Swarm is also one of my favorite action figures in my collection.
Yeah, I wondered about that beekeeper coming up from the sewer. SWARM, eh? Apart from the Hydra angle, he sounds like my kinda guy!
I'm thinking that this new DisneyPlus smaller screen, series format may let Marvel be crazier and more experimental than they can afford to be in a gazillion-dollar blockbuster movie. That's what WandaVision is telling me so far.
Swarm later because just an evil nazi consciousness that the bees formed around. I have to dig out my action figure now that I am all over this show which will be very cool if the Easter Eggs pay off. They have two super powered children. One a speedster, one a magic user, male twins. One is gay. It's complicated in the comics.
I love that the people making this stuff come from MY TIME of comic reading when I read the stories that WandaVision is based on. All the charaters too.
I forever stand vigilant to protect this planet from the myriad of forces that are always against us. Be it the octopus, zombies, aliens or the robots my team of human agents, and our feline allies, circle the globe in a never ending struggle for human freedom.
I learn all I can on every subject that interests me. I especially enjoy ancient history because in the past there are valuable lessons to be found. Also, if I ever get my time machine to work properly, it would be good to know a bit about possible destinations and what to expect when I get there.
I greatly appreciate beautiful design. Be it manufactured or found naturally I am fascinated by the process of invention. I am attracted to the unique, the strange, the haunted. I like to share what I find on this blog.
And not let us forget the 'Cephalopod Menace' who, if allowed to, would wrap their tentacles around all that is good and pure in this life and crush it until it remained no more. They are creatures of pure spite. Hate is all they know. Death is all they do. They are our most ruthless and determined enemy.
So we fight. Selena has the celebrity contacts, the cat is ruthless and without pity, Roosevelt's ghost has the experience and I do the wetwork.
Fighting for the future of the planet doesn't have to be a chore, however. We can take the time to appreciate all that is cool in this world even as we cut the octopus into bite sized chunks.
This is the reason there has always been and must forever be, a Cave of Cool. Be sure to wipe your feet before you enter.

The stakes are very high for their entire line. This one sorta has to work so I have high hopes.
