Hailee Steinfeld As Sleeping Beauty
Every once in a while I get attached to all the news that comes out about a certain film project, especially if it's a remake or based on a book I have read or may star a certain performer who I really like. 'The Hunger Games' is such a film project that is currently in development.
Thanks to Dez over at Hollywood Spy for the news that Haileee Steinfeld (my first choice for 'The Hunger Games) has been cast as 'Sleeping Beauty' in an upcoming film. She has the kind of timeless beauty to play historical fantasy like Mia Sara did in 'Legend'. I was hoping she would get cast in 'The Hunger Games' since I read that book imagining her as the lead.
Unfortunately for Hailee but not for the role, the lead in 'Hunger Games' will go to Jennifer Lawrence who recently competed for an Oscar for her performance in 'Winter' Bone'. I think she will do an equally good job in the role as Katniss.
It's nice to see that casting for this great franchise is suffering from an embarrassment of riches with many fine actresses around who have proven track records for excellence.

The Hunger Games movie worries me because it was so good as a book that I'm sure the movie will be disappointing. Yes, I am a pessimist.
I am just like you when it comes to projects like this that I really want to see. How can they be as good as the movie that played out in my brain while reading it? However, like 'The Walking Dead' I have heard good things about the 'Hunger Games' project since they started putting together the cast and I am chosing to be hopeful this time. It could be another piece of crap series like Twilight but I think it will be so much better because they have such cool source material to work with. Stick to the books and everything will be fine. That is my hope at least. I am listening to these on audio book so that is a new experience for me. I am interersted to see if I have the concentraion to be read too.
I heard that Suzanne Collins is writing the script, too. Not sure if that's still true, but if it's so, it bodes well.
That is always a good thing. Smart enough to get final script and cast approval for the project. It's her baby and much beloved. Like JK Rowling, she learned to call the shots and look how great Harry Potter turned out.
I'm equally excited about male actors who are competing for the role beside Jennifer. Alex Pettyfer, Hunter Parrish, Josh Hutcherson ... all amazing young beings.
But since the role of Katniss involves quite a violent setting, it's better for Hailee, who is still very young, to do SLEEPING BEAUTY and enjoy more innocent roles for a few more years.
I can live with that Dez. As long as she doesn't do anything 'Twilight' related.
