Paul Sizer Commission

I spend a good part of my day on the Internet. I see thousands of images and artists and there is nothing I love better than following an artist's picture to their deviant art page where I can see more of their stuff.


Paul Sizer's work has been floating around Tumblr for awhile now. His style always caught my eye. He finds the 'sweet spot' between propaganda and pop culture. Old school Soviet posters and their elegance heavily influence his work. The genius of Paul's stuff is found in the way he combines old techniques with fresh modern day culture influences. It's a great fusion. Don't even get me started on his photography work and his steampunk designs.


This 'jet pack' poster pretty much sums up my view on the topic - 'Shit I should already have in my life - jet pack, flying car, personal submarine, superpowers, jet pack.

Oh and just to name drop a little. His last commission was for Thomas Dolby, YEH, THE Thomas Dolby. 'She Blinded me With Science' Thomas Dolby. Back in the day I wore that tape out - 'Golden Age Of Wireless'. He was one of the first video artists who combined visuals with music to tell the kind of stories that I found interesting. I would love to hear his remembrances of those times, particularly how he was able to carve out his niche with TALENT and not looks - something rare to the early 80 music scene.





It's amazing how long the above song has been a part of the background soundtrack to all the 'Cave of Cool' stuff that I do. Now after all this time I find one degree of separation between me and a musician whose creativity so strongly inspired my own. It don't get more FULL CIRCLE than that in our part of the Multiverse.

I like to think that my mythology is so strong that it can be illustrated in so many ways. I love how all my commissions work together despite the disparate styles of the artists.

I am pretty jazzed to see this print on Tumblr and on Paul's own art site. But I share it with my people first. I welcome any and all comments you might care to make. I have to figure out a better way to display my commissions.
