The Bread and Circuses of Miley Cyrus

"Robin thought it would be fun to include Miley, but he didn't realize how much she would overshadow him. This was his big night and big performance. I don't think he would have done it knowing what it ended up like. He's also super bummed that he didn't win, especially Video of the Year."

This has been a great weekend for pop culture news (Ben Affleck as Batman - Miley Cyrus as Underwear Slut Girl) and Howard Stern is once again not doing a live show for another week. It's too bad. I would have loved to hear his interpretation of the news that will be a week old once he gets to it next Monday (we hope)

 

He might have actually got Robin Thicke on the phone to get his fresh perception on what happened last night. I guess Miley overstayed her welcome on stage and went nuts with that foam finger. She really is #1 now, isn't she.

 

 

Miley had done a lot of growing up over the past several years and maybe she freaked out that she was no longer in the headlines anymore. She needed something to boost her career and boy did she find it in the worse way she could have.

Oh and despite what her 'people' might say - she did EXACTLY what she wanted to do and was convinced by someone that this was the direction to go. Hell, everyone on the social media is talking about her and for a celebrity, that is ALL that really matters.

Now we can watch what the fallout will be. I apologized for being entertained. Not surprised but entertained.

So why does or should anyone care?

There was nothing, and I mean nothing, about that story that related to the important news of the day, the chronicling of significant human events, or the idea that journalism itself can be a force for positive change in the world. For Christ’s sake, there was an accompanying story with the headline “Miley’s Shocking Moves.” In fact, putting that story front and center was actually doing, if anything, a disservice to the public. And come to think of it, probably a disservice to the hundreds of thousands of people dying in Syria, those suffering from the current unrest in Egypt, or, hell, even people who just wanted to read about the 50th anniversary of Martin Luther King’s “I Have A Dream” speech. - CNN

 

Even the Fresh Prince and his family were shocked. Those poor kids will be scarred forever. Those look on their faces is priceless. That's what you get for having good seats. I wonder how many parents had to have that 'special talk' with their children today.

 

"Mommy why is Hannah Montana dancing like a whore with that nice Robin Thicke fellow? Why won't she just stop and leave the stage? What is she doing to that poor foam finger?

 

I understand that she left the show and went home after the performance. Maybe even she knew she had pushed it a bit too far. This won't stop these so called 'Award' shows but it should. Do they really draw in the ratings? I used to love these kind of music shows because you couldn't watch the videos online or see the musicians perform back in the day. It was rare to see them on TV. You were happy just listening to the music while following the lyrics on the album covers.

 

This is what it's come to in entertainment. The more extreme and shocking always gets the attention.

 

It's a great distraction from what is really important. Bread and Circuses for you all. Lady Gaga must be pissed she and her giant egg didn't think of it first. There is no such thing as bad press.
