There Is A Reason Your Stupid Movie Has Never Been Made

For years, 20th Century Fox was developing a futuristic take on the iconic pulp character Zorro, moving the 19th century-set hero into a future with less horses and more robots. As many projects are want to do, it faded away, never to be heard from again, but now The Hollywood Reporter brings word that the Zorro reboot is back on, albeit under different circumstances.

Lantica Media (Holy Motors) and Sobini Films (the upcoming Miles Ahead) will team up for the film, planning to begin principal photography in March 2016. The film is described as “a post-apocalyptic take on the myth of Zorro…set in the near future but keeps the idea of a masked and caped stranger taking on tyrants.”

“This has been a fifteen year journey filled with ups and downs but it has remained my passion project over the years,” said Sobini CEO Mark Amin.
“Every generation has its own Zorro hero and we’re proud to be able to introduce a new Zorro to this generation,” said Lantica Media CEO Antonio Gennari.

The search for a filmmaker to helm the project is currently underway. You can check out a proof of concept trailer for the now-defunct version of the film at Fox in the player below.

Known for his trademark mask, sword, and signature Z, the character was created by Johnston McCulley in 1919 and has appeared in countless books, novels, films, and television adaptations.

It's a terrible idea. It's the stupidest idea I ever heard. How does a guy with a whip and sword fight ROBOTS??? Get a different guy. Make up a character, hell, you ARE creative people but don't call him ZORRO unless he's ZORRO. Now if you have forgotten who and what ZORRO is, watch this trailer. They made a top notch adventure movie for all ages a number of years ago that pretty much got the entire thing right from concept to execution. And you want to have ZORRO fighting ROBOTS!

Why can't Hollywood hire me to run these ideas by before they go to busy people who have better things to do than listen to your ZORRO WITH ROBOTS story. I don't want to hear it. Now if you have busty cheerleaders who fight robots then maybe we have us a picture.

I take this Zorro stuff pretty seriously. My sword is the exact replica of the one they made for the movie. I paid 40 dollars for it online with 10 dollars shipping. It took a few months to get to me after customs got a look but I received it eventually. That is when Internet shopping really meant something.

The second Zorro film was not a great as the first but this one gave a co-starring role to Tornado the Wonder Horse. He knocked it out of the park. If you watch the second film's trailer you will notice that there is not one robot to be found.

Having that sword shipped to you over the border means you're probably on some kind of "list" now.

Do you think I could get a copy of that if I asked nicely. Those border patrol people on TV seem nice. Unless you are bringing meat product into Canada from Romania.

Amen!!! It should have been a trilogy - or bring back Antonio passing it on to the 3rd Zorro!!!

Repeating the role that Hopkins played in the first one. I can see that movie in Bandaras' furture. Give his Zorro a good death. His son is a wasteabout...a rich kid with a chip on his shoulder who comes to realize his family legacy after the death of his mother and the alienation of his father due to his reckless actions.

OOOOOO that is a good idea.
