Nathan said...: My not-really-serious hypothesis is that trust is meant to be widely distributed, so you don't entirely trust anybody without knowing them well, but also think most people are basically decent. When you think everybody is out to deceive you, it leaves you with an excess of trust to give, so you invest it all in a few really untrustworthy people whose ideas fit your existing prejudices.; January 22, 2019 at 4:25 AM
