Oh Good Lawd!

Apparently, approval has been given for an Islamic Cultural Center to be built near 'Ground Zero' in New York city. On paper it might seem like a way to build bridges between cultures but in NO way is America ready to do that. Why build something that will only ever be seen as a slap in the face to victims of 9/11? I hate that things will never be different as long as a living memory of what happened on 9/11 exists. This is why New York needs to build SOMETHING, anything on the site of the Twin Towers. It's been ten years. How much longer until people get off their ass and create an appropriate memorial? That hole in the ground is an open wound.

I don't understand how things are done anymore.

Fear is truly vanquished only through understanding. I truly beleive that to be true.

That being said... WTF? What is wrong with New York? Would anyone even suggest building a Japanese Cultural Centre near Pearl Harbour? How about a German Cultural centre outside of Auswich?

The mosque is being built two blocks from Ground Zero and despite heated protests the New York City Council approved the building request with a vote of 19 to 1 with 7 abstaining. This was after four hours of debate.

It's a nice IDEA but lets live in the real world here. I may think it will foster understanding but there are too many people in the US that are not ready for that kind of an education and the media does nothing but fan the flames of hatred. Truly sad.

How do we forget that American Muslims died on September 11th?

Apparently there are dozens of Churches quite near where the Alfred R Murrah Federal Building used to be in Oklahoma City. Weird. We should probably knock all those down because of McVeigh's religion. http://tinyurl.com/39mmewz
