Inuit Superman - Super Shamou
I have spent a good many years teaching in the far north of Canada in places like Yellowknife in the North West Territories and Iqaluit in Nunavut. I loved it there. You really felt like you were in the final frontiers of civilization and I met a lot of great people and seen some amazing things. One day I need to do an extended post about my time there. Many of the people that I met were not born in the north and like me had that adventurous spirit and curiousity. The government building that we lived in also housed the offices and production studios of CBC North. The CBC has branches of their network in all parts of Canada and the north was no exception. Many of the productions that were shown on CBC North were visably home made but that didn't stop them from trying to create interesting and unique television - none more unique than SUPER SHAMOU. Sort of a Inuit Superman, Super Shamou went about rescuing stupid children while preaching safety and the evils of gas sniffing. Why they ever chose the freaky looking kid to star in this production we will never know but he just adds to the kitsch factor that this video has in spades. This clip is from the show 'Maximum Exposure'. I am sure you will agree its not like anything you have seen before.
