The Rocketeer (1991)

This is one of my all time favorite films and a perfect one to watch with the whole family. Its this kind of adventure tale that Disney does best. Its the story of Cliff Secord (Bill Campbell), a young stunt pilot, who comes across a stolen jet pack that was built by Howard Hughes (Terry Quin) for the US military. Testing out the device put Cliff and all his friends in danger from a Nazi agent (Timothy Dalton) who is after the rocket pack for Hilter. With the help of his buddy Peevy (The fabulous Alan Arkin) and his girl Jenny (the beautiful Jennifer Connelly) he learns how to master the rocket pack and save the day. Great stunts, set pieces, period costumes and acting really bring this one alive. Even the look of the Rocketeer's costume is wonderful and has since inspired many artists to do their take on the charater. Dave Steven created the character for the comics first and if you know anything about his work, he was the perfect person to tell this tale. At the time of its release the movie based on his comic was a flop but I have never heard of someone hating it after they have seen it. I have included several clips from 'You Tube' for your viewing pleasure. I particularly like the trailer done is the 1930s style. The movie serial 'King of the Rocketmen' (my personal favorite serial) clearly inspired this film.

I think one of the first times I ever saw Mr. Stevens art was the Rocketeer. His take on Betty Page was stunning. Great flick too!
Also in agreement with Dr. Monkey.

I just found a comic book in my old stuff. "The Rocketeerzz" copyright 1991 by Dave Stevens. The helmeted character is holding an American flag in the left hand and a German Mauser broomhandle in the right hand. What is the comic book worth?
