30 Day Music Challenge - Day 5 - Song That Reminds You Of Somewhere.

This is a relatively new song by A-Ha ('Foot of the Mountain') but the theme of it about finding a place to share with someone reminds me of my time in Iqaluit in northern Canada.

I taught there and unbelievably had a lot to do with getting the girl I was in love will all my life (now THAT is a story) a job as the curator of the Inuit Museum. I was also the one that made it possible for her to leave her life and job in a kitchen so that she could go to University and achieve her dream about being a museum curator.

We used to babysit houses together for people who were travelling to make sure their stuff remained safe and their pipes didn't freeze. It was romantic and fun. It was the closest I ever came to the dream of having someone love me.

My term of teaching was over one Christmas because I had taken a maternity leave position. Before I could get back there I had to go home for six months and there would be a job for me in the fall. I asked her to marry me on Christmas Eve. She originally said yes. Three days later she said she couldn't marry me and I never spoke to her ever again. We had know each other from babies.

This song just takes me back to that time. The words are a combination of all the dreams I had. I don't ever ask for much but asking someone to marry me was asking for everything.

Wow, to know someone for so long and be a couple and to have your heart broken like that. So sad.

I know what you mean about asking someone to marry you means asking for everything. Luckily the third time was the charm.
