Diggin' On Tumblr

I like being on Tumblr. It's basically like doing my old 'From the Files of the Cave of Cool' feature. You all know that one of my 'signatures' is to always include some relevant pictures to go with ever thing I post about. Sometimes the reverse happens and the image itself sparks a post (like my personally captioned LOL Cats).

It is very satisfying to look at my Tumblr archive of pictures and see the awesome collage that was created by the stuff I felt compelled to reblog. I can be searching through the collections of others and instantly know which of their images I either want to save or reblog for my own collection.

Also, after a person has a large enough archive, you can get a pretty clear picture of what they are into and the kind of person that they are. I find that look into their psyche fascinating. I always see if I can predict if the creator is a guy or a gir, black or white, young or old, gay or straight, accepting or intolerant. Doesn't matter what they are but they can't help giving away their 'tell' depending which images they choose.

Some people are obsessive about ONE thing (be it boobies or anime or Selena or Japanese girls who wear glasses) so they are pretty easy to figure out. Those Tumblrs were created by some young person.

For example, the younger boys like to repost naked pictures of cute girls, sports, cars, superheroes or female actresses they are crushing on.

Young girls like to repost celebrity pictures, cats, clothing and anime.

Sure these are wide generalization and you can always find boys (like me) who like cat pictures and girls that are into superheroes.

Tumblr helps a person connect with those who share similar interests. It gives boys an icebreaker to conversations. It gives girls support for those issues they are struggling with like weight or dating. We all use Tumblr to find kindred souls that validate our interests. If someone else thinks something I like is cool, then that thing becomes twice as cool for me. (I never get grief from the 'I love Selena' crowd because I am one of them)

The Tumblrs I actively seek out and like the most show me that their creator has a wide variety of interests. They always bring in the content that I am looking for - things I would never find on my own. Those Tumblr people tend to be much older or young people with old souls.

I for one don't post any pictures of naked women or pornography because enough people on Tumblr are doing that. That kind of stuff doesn't get me excited like it used too. Nothing wrong if you are excited, however. I still look and enjoy the show. I just prefer to present a collect that is more unique and varied.

I want my Tumble to showcase the myriad of things I admire and in turn bring admiration to me by those who check out my collection archive.

You can see that I am impressed with beauty - beautiful girls, beautiful art, beautiful photography, beautiful animals, beautiful places, beautiful fantasy, beautiful TV, beautiful comics and beautiful graphic design. I hate exploitation, cruelty, ugliness, and outright racism.

Check out my Tumblr by going HERE. Once you get there click 'archive' and see what I am talking about if you haven't done so already. Tell me what you honestly think.

Then go start a Tumblr of your own. But be warned that the searching through images can be addicting.

Especilly if like you and me, Sam, a person has a love for great design and artistic technique I want those images to come at me fast and I make the choices for my collection purely on instinct.

It's like Mr. Burns said. "I don't know art, but I know what I hate. And I don't hate this."
