They support their daughter by not getting in her way and allowing her to be the story. They have no interest is riding her coat tails and stealing a little recognition for themselves. They are her closest advisors but she is the one who is firmly in control of her own career.

Selena's folks are not so narcissistic that they feel they need to be in the spotlight and that has EVERYTHING to do with why Selena is such a quality human being. She was raised to be humble and generous with her fans and the people she works with. I have never heard a single rumor of a snip of a rumor that she has ever acted the diva on her television program or with her music.

When I see Selena talk it always gives me the impression that she is thankful for all she has been given. She can't work hard enough to please those who adore her. She knows the power of her 'brand' and carefully chooses projects that are perfectly suited to where she currently is in her life and her progression as a performer.

Many starlets or pop princesses like Ke$$ha (who I refuse from this moment on to write her using dollar signs) try to do so much so fast thinking that being outrageous or slutty is the way to have a lasting career.

Longevity in the entertainment business never arises from those kinds of attitudes. For every one Selena there are dozen of one hit wonders like 'Milli Vanilli'. Kessha won't even be a footnote in the history of entertainers. Selena is patient enough to see her efforts earn an entire chapter in that same historical tome when it gets written.

When was the last time you heard of any of the young stars becoming a spokesperson for children's issues in some of the poorest parts of Africa? You can't name one because they don't exist. You also can't fake or phone it in when you represent the United Nations Children's Fund. Selena does the work and is the 'real deal'.

I have a dream of meeting her one day but for now the world can satisfy me by asking her to host 'Saturday Night Live. I think it would be killer. Everyone is a fan of some celebrity and I am proud to say that Selena Gomez has my respect and admiration. In a world where only the bad celebs get any notice, she is a class act who I wish more young people would emulate.
