Way To Go Youth Of London

You burned all kinds of things and tomorrow your lives won't be any better - only now everything will have the smell of burnt city attached to it. That odor takes forever to get out of the carpets. I know I am growing up because I find myself thinking more of the mess these riots have created instead of applauding the youthful anarchy like I used to.

This is what happens when people play games with the largest economy in the world. This is the 'trickle down' effect Republicans believe so strongly in - only in this case what is trickling down is not opportunity but dispair. This is what happens when a civilization actively supresses hope and justice. Eventually the pressure builds and what happened this week in London becomes a grim reality of the selfish and superficial times we live in.

Personally I think this is the logical extension of whats happening to the world today, we're running out of the stuff that fuels our non-stop expansion. We run out of work and money, society implodes, and in a thousand years they will be looking at the remains of our society in the same way we examine those of the Greeks, the Romans, Tuscan's,Aztec's, etc, etc! ...or I could be wrong, maybe they'll just send in the army to kill a few of the little buggers until they decide that 'recreational rioting' isn't as much fun as they thought!

I probably would "applaud the anarchy" (that should really be a name for a punk band or something)more myself, if they were doing it for a decent reason. It started because the police killed a known gang member who was armed with a gun. Not easy to feel sympathy for him. Now the riots are just an excuse for looting electrical goods. If the riots were a protest against the government, then fine. But that is not the case. According to the papers, the police have mainly stood back and watched. I get the feeling the PM has ordered them to do so. I can imagine him saying "Let them burn their little rathole, as long as it doesn't spread to any wealthy areas."
