Oh They WILL Remember Us, The Whole Universe Will Shake From Our Thunder
Woe be to any alien species that makes contact with us. We will steal their technology, exploit their culture and make snack food out of their pets. We can't be trusted to be reasonable in any situation - in fact, expect us to be unreasonable at the most inopportune moments.

That's very likely true. Look at the history of our own planet when one civilization encountered another -- The Spanish in South America, the British and French in North America. An alien species that makes contact with us is bound to get fucked over.
Which would be great for us. There's nothing wrong with playing to your strengths. Let's go out there and be the baddest species in the galaxy.
But then all those crybaby species will gang up on us and spread bad rumors about us.
That's why they're just sitting back waiting for us to implode.
