Disqualied!!

My heart is breaking for our boys. You would 't think it to look at us but Canada has just as rich a sprinting history as Jamaica. In the 2004 Atlanta Olympics, Donovan Baily won the gold in the 100 meter and our country won the 4x100 relay, the marquis event of any Olympic games. Our team went into the race ranked 4th in the world.

It was a forgone conclusion that Jamaica would win the London 4x100 relay. Usaine Bolt is just so powerful and so dominant that it would have taken an act of God to deny him his victory.

The relay is the kind of event where you have to do a thousand things right to win. Teams train for years to perfect the passing of the baton but everything can fall apart with a single step. That is what happened to our team - ONE STEP on the line that divides the racing lanes and we were done.

I hate that at first the Canadian team thought they had the medal only to have it snatched away from them a few minutes later. It was so painful to watch these athletes go from elation to depression in the same breath. I agree with one of the commentators who said that the official results shouldn't have been posted until the judges were sure who deserved which medal.

We broke the rules. It sucks but that is the game.

LONDON - Canada has been disqualified from the final of the men's 4x100-metre relay at the London Olympics after initially appearing to win the bronze medal.

The team of Gavin Smellie of Brampton, Ont., Ottawa's Oluseyi Smith, Jared Connaughton of New Haven, P.E.I., and anchor Justyn Warner of Markham, Ont., brought out the Maple Leaf to celebrate after posting a time of 38.07 seconds.

But the team was disqualified after it appeared Connaughton stepped out of his lane.
The DQ gave the bronze to Trinidad and Tobago, leaving the Canadians doubled over on the track in tears.

Jamaica won gold in a world-record time of 36.84 seconds. The United States took silver in 37.04.

In my heart Canada did come in 3rd regardless of what happened.

Mine too. I hate the rules sometimes. I hope this doesn't haunt them their whole lives.

Silly isnt it, everyone puts a foot down a bit wrong from time to time, seeing as it was just then once it should have passed as the inadvertent thing it was.
