Again With The Luftballoons

Topless Robot did a post today about the top songs about Nuclear War from the 80s. I am shocked, SHOCKED that this classic from Nena was not Number 1. How can anyone deny the greatness of this song? It's my favorite German language song EVER (are there any other German songs?) and perfectly captures those heady days of the Cold War when we all believed that we were always minutes away from Mutual Assured Destruction (M.A.D. - another perfect abbreviation). The original video is goofy and cheap so for my money I prefer the 1999 remake which wisely keeps Nena's douchey band members off screen. Watch the original and tell me you don't want to slap that keyboard player.

I have no idea if the keyboard player is male or female. I do know that I would like to see Nene perform buck naked!

She really held her beauty in the fifteen years between these videos, didn't she? I had a poster of her in the 80s that came from the original video. I loved her look and she was EUROPEAN...OOOOOOOOO

There's really no excuse for this oversight. Not only is it the best German song, it's gotta be in the Top 20 for that entire decade, if not Top 10.

I love how the remix video looks like a Terry Gilliam job. I kept looking for Billy Barty.
