Just watched it.. Looks pretty 'epic', generically.
Hope it keeps some resemblence of cool 'Trekness'. For instance, I saw a few of the new Nolan Batman films. Didn't like the darkness aspect much, and the films seem pretty action-oriented, but doesn't really say 'Batman' to me...
You could put nearly any hero into that role (including Arnold or Bruce...), and it would still be the same.
We start with a Twilight Blue-Tinted Funeral scene (I wonder who dies?) followed by a monologue about "Vengeance" with shots of Kirk in the ribbed jacket and Benedict in a makeshift Starfleet uniform. The Japanese trailer even includes a shot of Kirk and Spock touching hands across a glass partition.
So yeah, it looks like an yet another attempt to copy "Wrath of Khan", just like the last movie and the one before that. I had hoped rumors of "Khan" as the bad guy were spread to misdirect us away from another classic villain, but that seems pretty unlikely now.
Let Batman be the one to go "Into Darkness", Star Trek is supposed to be about New Life, this is just going back and doing the same thing all over again.
There was nothing there that hooked me. I don't know about this one. But the Next Gen : poster I saw at my local movie house looks promising. Any news about that?
I blogged it the other day, but there's something about this creative team's efforts to recast TREK as a tentpole action movie franchise that I find offensive.
It looks like more putrid garbage from JJ Lensflare and his hacks: Orci and Kurtzman. I abhor their first attempt and hopefully await when someone makes Star Trek again.
I forever stand vigilant to protect this planet from the myriad of forces that are always against us. Be it the octopus, zombies, aliens or the robots my team of human agents, and our feline allies, circle the globe in a never ending struggle for human freedom.
I learn all I can on every subject that interests me. I especially enjoy ancient history because in the past there are valuable lessons to be found. Also, if I ever get my time machine to work properly, it would be good to know a bit about possible destinations and what to expect when I get there.
I greatly appreciate beautiful design. Be it manufactured or found naturally I am fascinated by the process of invention. I am attracted to the unique, the strange, the haunted. I like to share what I find on this blog.
And not let us forget the 'Cephalopod Menace' who, if allowed to, would wrap their tentacles around all that is good and pure in this life and crush it until it remained no more. They are creatures of pure spite. Hate is all they know. Death is all they do. They are our most ruthless and determined enemy.
So we fight. Selena has the celebrity contacts, the cat is ruthless and without pity, Roosevelt's ghost has the experience and I do the wetwork.
Fighting for the future of the planet doesn't have to be a chore, however. We can take the time to appreciate all that is cool in this world even as we cut the octopus into bite sized chunks.
This is the reason there has always been and must forever be, a Cave of Cool. Be sure to wipe your feet before you enter.

I agree Eric, but evidently darkness sells, so that's the bottom line. I do hope there is some of that New Life involved. Hoping.
I hope it´s good as the first J.J. Movie. I prefer the adventure approach vs. TNG approach.

Not that I have seen yet Mikeyboy. I have a feeling that the villain in Gary Mitchell from that first episode of classic Trek.
Nothing to say about this trailer waiting to see more on this one before i make any calls on it.

A lot of this just disappoints me, especially after everyone nailed their characters in the last film.
Well, we'll always have the classic stuff on DVD.
Before anyone gets resigned to the Khan misdirection - it could be: http://en.memory-alpha.org/wiki/Garth_of_Izar
scottsz, good find. You may be on to something.
Only if it meant a loyal legion of Orion Slave Girls.
Lordy, we'll need PLENTY of those..
Save me one of the green ones david_b.
