I Don't Know If I Love This Or Hate It
It's got all the fancy extras that made the Pirates of The Caribbean franchise so enjoyable even when it got a little too impressed with itself and it's cuteness. I owe myself a rewatch of that series in the near future. I hope the Ranger is fun. They trailer makes me think it can go either way.

Well its the same writer, producer, director and at least one star actor from "Pirates", so think its a safe bet that if you liked that, you'll like this too.
That is my fear, that I will see too many comparisons to Pirates that it will keep me from fully buying into the western fantasy. I just don't want to see everything I have seen before which is a high mountain for the movie to climb but that is to be expected when you make Depp into another quirky character where it might not work. Remember WILD WILD WEST with Will Smith?
I remember Wild Wild West. Loved the full-on steampunk execution, but the script was terrible.
And if you have heard Kevil Smith talk about his experience with the Superman movie starring Nick Cage and also produced by Bruckheimer. He wanted Supes to fight a giant spider at the end of the film and look at the end of Wild Wild West where that same freakin mechanical spider made it's terrible appearance. Some guys no nothing about the properties they are trying to make movie franchises out of.
That Kevin Smith bit is one of the greatest things I've ever heard. The way he just spins that story off the cuff, just including the bit about Superman fighting the giant spider and then letting it go for about ten minutes before finally getting back to how a year later he went to see a movie that guy had produced...a movie called The Wild Wild West...and immediately you hear members of Smith's audience going, "Ohhhhh!!!" as they make the connection. God, I love that speech!
That special was terrific. I would pay good money to see him speak live before I would see many of his movies - though Red State was a nice surprise.
