Avenger's - Earth's Mightiest Heroes

This week we got our first look at the new Avengers cartoon. It's part of a massive vision that Marvel comics has to create a film franchise around it's most famous and important superheroes.

Iron Man was the first live action films. Next Summer we get Captain America and Thor movies. There is a new Hulk movie in the early stages and an Avenger's film to be release in the 2012/2013 time frame.

Samuel L. Jackson has signed for up to nine movies where he will play Nick Fury, director of SHIELD. The cartoon has Fury as a black man although in the comics he is white. Obviously the studio wants a black Fury to be the one the public will relate to in the future.

The cartoon ties all the major villains and character storylines together. Evil organizations like HYDRA and A.I.M (Advanced Ideal Mechanics) are the high tech bad guys but each hero's major villains are represented.

They released several mini-movies (less than ten minutes in length) on the Internet that showed the origins of the main characters. I saw them as a full length movie after several smart web surfers cut them together into one long sequence.

The first 2 part episode saw our heroes coming together to fight the menace known as Graviton who has the power, of course, to control gravity. There were many great fight sequences and much collateral damage. I like how they brought the Hulk in as a good guy. This let him play out his purpose as 'the strongest one there is'.

It seems like the creators are old time fanboys because each character rang true to their comic book origins. We haven't seen Captain America in the main cartoon yet but from the mini webisodes, I can say that they got him right too.

Even the theme song (shown above) is good. It's so easy to go cheesy with these kind of things.

As someone who loves the golden age of superhero animation that we are now living in, I have nothing but great things to say about this series and I look forward to adding it to my viewing schedule.
