This Is How You Make An Old Character Seem Fresh And New

Marvel used to do a feature in their monthly previews magazine called 'Time Slip'.

On two pages, comic creators re-imagined famous Marvel characters. I especially enjoyed the 'Punisher' which was remade as an accountant who lost his family to gangsters and decided to take a business approach to dealing with his pain. At end of the year the gangster deaths and the innocent deaths in New York City matched up perfectly in his 'ledger of death'.


I tried to find a copy of this comic to download so I could share these cool two page entries as a regular feature here. Stay tuned. I remembered these creations after reading Matt Rhodes' take on one of my favorite characters - Galactus.


Galactus by Matt Rhodes

Says Matt: “Galactus is a problem. In comics he’s fantastic, a giant purple techno-demi-god that stands around vaguely menacing planets. When it comes to translating him into movie form, or even movie-caliber comic form (Ultimate: Galactus) he’s been turned into a space-dust-storm and swarm of giant metal bugs respectively. I read up on his back story, and it turns out that Galactus is the only living creature to have lived before our universe and survive the big bang. We may have been a little hopped up on Hellboy, but we started thinking it would be great if Galactus looked alien, ancient, and gargantuan. He could be loosely human shaped, enough that legends of him could have mistaken him for a massive man”.
