Justice League - The Flashpoint Paradox

Just when I think there is nothing I can find to love about DC Comics these days, there comes the newest animated feature The Flashpoint Paradox. This movie is based on the FLASHPOINT comic arc that preceded what is now known as The New 52. The main antagonists are Flash and Professor Zoom.

In a reality where the Flash never existed, we enter a world where Wonder Woman and Aquaman are at battle with each other to the death with the fate of the world in their hands.

Everything is different about this new Universe. Bruce Wayne is not the Batman but there IS a Batman. Superman has been held captive by the government since his ship landed decades earlier. Tragedy is at the heart of this story which may not be for the little superhero fans in your family.

There are many bloody deaths such as the murder of a parent, hangings, beheadings, snapped necks, face shots, child murder and many other of the myriad ways that the heroes have to kill each other. No quarter asked, none given. This is the most violent and adult of all DC'S animated collection. Batman with a gun - yeh, that is pretty hardcore.

This is a real gem for those like me with a long time association with these characters. I love the Flash being the hero and I found the variations to the characters that I already know to be fascinating.

Visually the animation is top notch but this is what we have come to expect from DC's animated division. I could watch one of these features every week.

They OWE me to put a similar effort into a top quality Kingdom Come feature. Obviously DC has no problem with crossing the line and making their stories more violent and adult. If they took all they learned and made Kingdom Come, it would rock this entire planet.

One word - ENTRIGAN -you can never have enough of the DEMON. He was part of Lois Lane's resistance movement against Wonder Woman. That part of the story could have used about ten more minutes.

I enjoyed this feature. This is why I wish that DC could get their live action division together. These characters have such a rich history that it's a shame we don't get an Avengers like summer blockbuster every summer.

With the success of the Man of Steel that may actually happen one day. However, if this comes as close to real life as I ever get to see, I am pretty happy with that. This is a magnificent movie that rewards long time fans of the superhero genre and the DC heroes.

I've been hard on DC's animation division over these DVD features for a while now. I'm just tired of adaptations of storylines that I'm already familiar with from their original comic form and miss the continuity and consistent style and actors of the Dini/Timm-Verse shows.

I am interested in this one as its one of the few comic stories that they have adapted that I have not read before, so this will be all new to me, so I may be more fairly inclined in my judgement. Though I will say the title is wordy and makes me think I'm about to watch a really long episode of "The Big Bang Theory".

I actually have a copy in hand and was just about to start it before I decided to check my feed reader first, so I guess I'll check back with you in about eighty minutes.

I too am a fan of the DC character "the Demon"...

I like the way he rhymes everything he says. Two stanzas but gets the point across.

"Away away the form of man
Arise the demon Entrigan"

Conspicuous by his absense is Superman...without having read the series or seeing the movie...is that what ZOOM changed about the past?

Oh Superman is in it but it would spoil it to tell you more.
