The Colony (2013)

 

If there is one genre of movie I have a weakness for it's the ones about a group of characters going into someplace where there are monsters who already killed everyone that was just in whatever place they are going to. Our group of characters fight their way out and many of them die. Usually the biggest star lives. Perfect examples of this genre are Resident Evil and 13 Warriors.

 

The Colony is this kind of movie. Only more gruesome. I have to admit that I didn't see where this one was going until it went there. And then I found it a chore. Gruesome to a fault, this one has dark tunnels and zombie cannibals in a frozen wasteland that has become the world. It's a post apocalyptic chase movie. But it does have Lawrence Fishburn heading an unknown cast and he is always solid.

The chaos of the whole situation is disturbing and not as much fun as I thought it would be. I figured the monsters had enough corpses to eat back in their shelter. Why would they come after living people when they don't really seem to have a preference for fresh or spoiled carrion? Nothing new or fresh here but a solid addition to the genre.

 

Laurence Fishburne (The Matrix), Bill Paxton (Aliens) and Kevin Zegers (Dawn of the Dead), headline an all-star cast in this savage and unrelenting thriller about mankind's greatest enemy: himself. When Colony 7 receives a distress call from a nearby settlement, Sam (Zegers) and Briggs (Fishburne) race through the snow on a dangerous rescue mission.
