Movie Of The Day - Attack The Block

Attack the Block (2011) ★★★★; A group of teenage gang members band together with a victim of their own mugging and an avid pot-smoker to defend their block during an alien invasion. More action than horror. Rated R for creature violence, drug content and pervasive language.

When I think of this GREAT monster movie I often compare it to Tremors in my mind. It has the same kind of thrills and adventure and yes, the heart as that Kevin Bacon classic. This is one that you can share with the kids because while it's scary, it's not gruesomely so. The aliens are rarely seen but are terrifying when they are. Less is definitely more here and that technique only adds to the frights. If you have never seen it, it's a great choice for this month of Halloween. Fantastic story with characters you will fall in love with. Attack the Block is the real deal.

I loved this, especially after suffering through the lackluster monster designs in "Cowboys vs Aliens" that same summer. Here we had space creatures that were original and terrifying. Covered with fur, they actually looked like mammals who could live on this planet. Perfectly shaded for blending in at night and the glow in the the dark teeth was a stroke of genius! I give it high marks as well.

I don't know that I could call it Tremors good, but I did like it.
