I actually got to meet James Gurney at an exhibit he was guest lecturing in my hometown while I was a freshman in high school. I told him I was an aspiring artist and he gave me a copy of Dinotopia and signed it "To Erik, Fellow Artist" and even drew a Brachiosaurus underneath.

Fast forward eight years later during my senior year of art college and he came as a guest speaker to one of my classes. I went up to him with a copy of the book and he said "Hello young man, would you like me to sign that for you?" I showed him that he already had and how his encouragement had helped get me here.

That is very cool. I would often give away coffee table books as gifts and most of my friend's children grew up on those great images from Dinotopia.
