In 1986, the United Way attempted to break the world record for balloon launches, by releasing 1.5 million balloons, which resulted in two deaths, millions in lawsuits, and a devastating environmental impact.

 

I love these kind of bad ideas that no one thinks through to the inevitable bad end. Romania tried to break a record for the release of paper lanterns a few years ago which ended with the burning down of a forest and other environmental fire damage. You humans and your stupid ideas to break these meaningless 'World Records."
