The Genius Of Jim Steranko

Even though his output is limited relative to other comic creators, Jim Steranko did as much as Jack Kirby to advance the art of the comic book. His work on Nick Fury was iconic and pushed the boundaries of what people were used to seeing in comic books. He brought classic art training and sensibilities to a medium unfamiliar with those techniques. It was a revelation and extremely influential to future artists. He raised the level of the art form like few creators before or since.

I couldn't agree more, Cal. As you probably know, I'm a huge Steranko fan and it's always good to see other bloggers posting some of his wonderfulartwork. I've just been re-reading my old issues of Strange Tales with that iconic Agent Of SHIELD series by Jaunty Jim - fantastic stuff!

I totally agree. He was doing stuff in the 60s that took 20 years for everyone to recognize the genius of. So influential maybe the most influential given his limited output. That Shield stuff is so great.

And I lke his personal story too, the escape artist stuff and him being the inspiration for Mr Miracle. That's such a cool factoid.
