Get Your Comments In Soon. They Will Only Be Accepted For The Next Few Days

I think I will be going in this direction pretty soon - shutting off the ability for people to comment. It will be just like Tumblr that doesn't allow comments.

I find it frustrating that I can't leave any comment about what a person has posted. So many times I want to tell them that I like the same things they do. The only way they can know that I appreciate the find is by reposting it. If they also visit my blog they can see it there and know that I nicked that image from them. Having something you posted get reposted by another person is very cool to see. You get to see your blog address proudly displayed there and it might lead to more traffic back to you. What it really is is validation that someone else agreed with about what you thought was cool.

That one time when I had over 1500 visitors in one day was because of a somebody reposting something I had first posted here in the 'Cave of Cool'. Lots of people followed that link back to me. Sure few stuck around for any longer than that one visit and the next day my number went back to normal.

That made me wonder just how much anyone is enjoying what I blog about.

I love getting comments (we all do) and the conversations that they can start back and forth. Those who daily availed themselves of the option to comment on something they have seen on the 'Cave of Cool' will always have my unlimited love. The regulars I get to interact with through the comments (which really is the only measure of who is reading and appreciating the effort) are all great people. Their creativity inspires me. They never seem too busy to reply to the comments I leave on their sites. Some give no feedback at all - nearly half that I regularly visit. I will be stopping commenting on those sites too after this weekend.

You feel like a loser for always commenting and not being acknowledged. I must just make people cringe to be dismissed like that.

People like TS and Pat and Megan who get tons of comments take the time to acknowledge things I have left on their comment pages. They do this for each of the people who comment. Just a small thank you and acknowledgment. Building that relationship between bloggers.

I just am having frustrations with the lack of comments especially with opinion posts or posts in which I talk about an creative idea that I have had. To not get feedback on that stuff hurts. It's like people aren't inspired enough by my ideas. I think I would rather not expect anything then learning to deal with getting nothing.

I gave great blog all week but you wouldn't think that if you added up the comments in any given week. Hey, let's do that. Ratio of comments to post for the last 100 I have did. I average 2.69 comments for the last 100 posts I did. I have 221 regular followers.

It frustrates me that Tumblrs do not have a comment feature. There are times everyday when I want to say something about a tumble picture or start some back and forth on some topic/idea that Tumblr post inspires. I guess people on Tumblr are different than those that do just straight blogs. The nature of Tumblr with the sheer volume of posts and the emphasis on gathering the most followers can make commenting too much work for people to deal with.

I combine features from both Tumblr and straight blog. I don't comment on the stuff I just throw up there with a title and a quick sentence. Those are disposable ideas. It's the long posts, the story telling, the opinion pieces that I want the feedback on. I understand people are busy. They just want to get in, get their fix, and move on to the next blog in their roll.

Sorry for the rant. I may have repeated some parts but reading what I just said has convinced me that this is the way the 'Cave of Cool' needs to go.
