Staring the brilliant and magnetic Idris Elba.
The first two seasons of this series come highly recommended. Only ten episodes to catch up on all the drama and this is among the best stuff that the BBC does. It made Idris Elba a star and you will immediately see why. He is magnetic to watch, especially right before you know he's about to explode. The quiet moments are magic here.

This first episode of the new series proved to be even more ludicrous than I'd expected. Idris Elba is indeed very charismatic but the paper-thin characters and ridiculous scenes of violence ( the hand in the blender, the head pushed through the ceiling ) just undermine the whole thing.
If you get the chance try and catch the recent Gillian Anderson-starring The Fall, also from the BBC, which tells a very similar story... but with far more intelligence, mood and subtlety...
I have been thinking about getting into The Fall.
I hope I enjoy Luther third season more than you did. I loved the first two seasons and to tell you the truth they had me in this trailer the second I saw Ruth Wilson show up. She's so deliciously evil.
It's always the quiet ones you have to watch out for.
