Star Trek Convention
Well it appears that my post 5000 post life will be just as bizarre as my pre 5000 post life.
The province I live in has a town called Vulcan. It was named that long before the Star Trek TV show premiered but since that show they have become sort of a mecca for fans of that program. That town is Star Trek central and embraces the concept in all it's incarnations.
When the latest Star Trek movie was premiered the town lobbied for it to be show there first. Leonard Nemoy recently visited and this weekend they have a convention of sorts.
How do I know this? I know this because my 70 YEAR OLD MOTHER is going there with one of her friends who is a freak for the show.
Now you need to understand that my mother has ZERO interest in anything UNREAL - Hobbits, Elves, Klingons, Republicans - she just doesn't get anything that requires a leap of imagination. So to imagine her there with her camera and people in Star Trek regalia rushing past her is enough to make my head explode.
Her and this friend of hers often go on these little 'adventures' and they usually get lost. This time I hope she gets there because her reaction will be priceless. I have resisted showing her what a 'Star Trek' is or what she can expect when she gets there. Her post trip reaction will be much more entertaining without preperation.
My worst nightmare is that she comes home with spock ears and a desire to see Star Trek V - the movie. That I simply cannot abide.
P.S. - she has also be invited to a 'goth wedding' by another of her friends. Try explaining THAT concept to your elderly mother. "They wear all black?? How can that be a wedding??" Let's see how she does with the 'Borg' before I send her into that.
