I'll show you how much of a cynic I am. I am sure there are a slew of homicidal maniacs all ready to rule Egypt. If someone nice is elected, they will kill him and some asshole will take his place. Maybe the next guy will be super religious and out come the sex police to beat women up and make them wear burkas.
What I think will keep that from happening is the fact that most of the population of Egypt is under 30 and those days, when such traditional B.S. can be forced on the people is done with. I really think this is a tipping point in Islam and the rest of the world. It's a wave that will bring everyone into the future where such things as gay marriage and more freedom for woman will be the norm. The generations that have fought against such change become weaker everyday.
Michael Ramirez (the guy who drew the cartoon) is as right-wing as they get, but as a staunch liberal who disagrees with him on everything, I love his work. His art is just fantastic, and there are few editorial cartoonists out there who are able to convey a point of view with actual art (as opposed to lame caricature, which is what most political cartooning is nowadays).
I had no idea about the artist's politics but I was totally 'wowed' by this cartoon. The draftsmanship is spectacular and it makes it's point very effectively.
I have to say that I like knowing someone who is smarter than I am. I always learn something new from you my friend.
I forever stand vigilant to protect this planet from the myriad of forces that are always against us. Be it the octopus, zombies, aliens or the robots my team of human agents, and our feline allies, circle the globe in a never ending struggle for human freedom.
I learn all I can on every subject that interests me. I especially enjoy ancient history because in the past there are valuable lessons to be found. Also, if I ever get my time machine to work properly, it would be good to know a bit about possible destinations and what to expect when I get there.
I greatly appreciate beautiful design. Be it manufactured or found naturally I am fascinated by the process of invention. I am attracted to the unique, the strange, the haunted. I like to share what I find on this blog.
And not let us forget the 'Cephalopod Menace' who, if allowed to, would wrap their tentacles around all that is good and pure in this life and crush it until it remained no more. They are creatures of pure spite. Hate is all they know. Death is all they do. They are our most ruthless and determined enemy.
So we fight. Selena has the celebrity contacts, the cat is ruthless and without pity, Roosevelt's ghost has the experience and I do the wetwork.
Fighting for the future of the planet doesn't have to be a chore, however. We can take the time to appreciate all that is cool in this world even as we cut the octopus into bite sized chunks.
This is the reason there has always been and must forever be, a Cave of Cool. Be sure to wipe your feet before you enter.

I really hope you are right about Egypt. It would be wonderful if things changed for women in the Middle East.
I'm also VERY interested to see what happens elsewhere in the near future...
I, like Belle, hope you are right.
..meanwhile Palestinian kids are still being murdered by the dozens everyday by another US ally..
One oppressive regime at a time. Two state solution is the only solution.
